Bizarre Photography “Ever Thought You were Famous? But No-Body Else Does”

“Ever Thought You were Famous? But No-Body Else Does” Dave Ruffles, Birmingham 1981 This was the strap-line for the “Bizarre Photographic Company” intent on wooing budding Rock Stars to commission promotional photographs of themselves. Back in the Early Eighties in the sweaty, boozy, smoke filled Rock Venues of Birmingham, England, we’d had enough of Punk & were disgusted at the rising tide of New Romanticism. Making use of live gig & candid photos a Heavy Rock Fanzine evolved. It ran for two so-called issues “The Bizarre Photographic Catalogue”, numbers One & Two. Following to enquiries via Facebook I’ve dug out the old artwork, presenting them here in all their glory. Having revisited the material I found a few “Photographic Moments” & will be including these within a few weeks. I’d like to thank:- Mr Robert “Bert” Heap Mr Zit (Carl Patrick, cover, Number One) Bobby the Reptile (wherever you are Reptile) Mr Nik Lloyd (Enigma, Strider) Mr Luis Burley (Monster Bonce) Mr Stu Clarke Mr Gary Edwards (No Faith) Mr Tony Edwards (No Faith) Mr Richard (Richie) Heath, (No Faith) Mr Ric Gibbs (Gibbo) (No Faith) Ms Tracey Beresford (Cover, Number Two) Ms Rose (Girl in the Reptile Man poster) Ms Deborah Fussell, Journalist (Brum Beat Mag-food for the Reptile Man) And all the people who joined in, posed & “Put up” with my incessant activities. Dave Ruffles, June 2011
